Bristol-Myers Squibb Named the Best Corporate Citizen in 2014

Bristol-Myers Squibb has earned top honors for being a responsible corporate citizen. Their history of CSR and sustainability alongside their anti-AIDS efforts has distinguished them from their peers. According to the 15th annual Corporate Responsibility Magazine listing, Bristol-Myers Squibb was ranked as the number one corporate citizen of 2014 followed by Johnson & Johnson, Gap, Microsoft, Mattel Weyerhaeuser, Ecolab, Intel, Coca-Cola and Walt Disney.
To create the rankings, the magazine assessed 298 data points in seven categories (environment, climate change, employee relations, human rights, corporate governance, financial performance and philanthropy).


Bristol-Myers Squibb extols the virtues of always doing “what is right” for their customers and employees. They also acknowledge the importance of environmental sustainability and minimizing their footprint. Their website touts their commitment to “healthy communities, a clean environment and responsible economic growth.”

Bristol-Myers Squibb is also behind some powerful philanthropic endeavors. In 2001 they agreed to reduce the price of AIDS medicines from $20 a day to less than $1 a day in Africa. This is a level they describe as being “below cost price.” They have also relaxed their approach to their patent rights.

In addition to its work with AIDS, Bristol-Myers Squibb is also a leader in Hepatitis B education. Its PATH B program is a finalist in the Corporate Social Responsibility award category.
