Online Course – Leading an Ethical Business: (Yale School of Management)

This six week online course explores ethical decision making to help you define and align values in a business context. This course offers insight into ethical decision-making and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Using ethical frameworks, tools and case studies this course will help participants make better business decisions that have a positive impact. Participants will develop the ability to define and align values in a business context. It will also broaden the perspective and expand your business network. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will gain access to the exclusive Yale School of Management Executive Education group on LinkedIn. 

Program Modules

Program outline 2 Module 1: Tying your values to corporate social responsibility 3 Translate individual values into effective corporate social responsibility. 

Module 2: Opportunities for CSR programs 4 Learn factors that impact how CSR is implemented. 

Module 3: Conflicts of interest and how to manage them 5 Discover how overconfidence and conflicts of interest influence decisions. 

Module 4: Unbiased hiring: Techniques to ensure hiring practices are impartial and ethical 6 Learn how to overcome biases in the hiring process. 

Module 5: Understanding corruption: White collar criminals and their whistleblowers 7 Examine the behavior of corrupt individuals and the whistleblowers who expose them. 

Module 6: Putting a value on your values 8 Learn how to determine the cost of ethical behavior. 9 ​ 10 11 ​ 12 Please note that module titles and their contents are subject to change during program development. 

Program Convener 

Daylian Cain 13 ​ 14 Senior Lecturer in Negotiations, Leadership, and Ethics, Yale School of Management 15 ​ 16 Dr Cain’s research focuses on judgment and decision-making, and behavioral business ethics. He is a leading expert on conflicts of interest, especially the obstructive effects of disclosing conflicts of interest, and how to turn altruism on and off. Notably, Cain’s research has been discussed in the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, Forbes, the New Yorker, the Washington Post, BusinessWeek, USA Today, the New York Times, and other top media outlets such as NPR. Cain has won national teaching awards and has also appeared as a commentator on National Geographic’s popular TV show, Brain Games.
